New York International Academy create a D1 level environment as the Eagles Team play home games and compete against good level competition at the Maines Arena

The Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena was converted into our home court on Saturday 7th-8th Jan to showcase our aspiring basketball stars this weekend. The New York International Academy Prep-Stars Showcase hosted by AAUCONNECT and Athletes Abroad Scholarship Foundation gave the young players who competed, an opportunity to play for fans, family, and college scouts.

All players have worked hard for years to reach an elite level and for many, it was their first time playing in a college level gymnasium. There was local news coverage over the weekend event too.

One senior shooting guard from New York International Academy said “It’s really exciting, having everybody come out to support us locally, playing in this arena, it’s been a really good experience so far.” The were many top basketball players from around the world  hoping to score big over the weekend and some players definitely did not disappoint.

Saturdays games were very entertaining and Sundays were even better with the New York International Academy team playing for the Championship trophy. With such a good turn out of college scouts from across the region, Coach Young is confident his guys will get recruited from the weekends performances.

Willie Young, Head Coach at New York International Academy said:

“The main thing is for these guys to get looked at so they can go on to fulfill their dreams on the college level- whatever level that is”

Coach Young also said he hopes to get lots of phone calls this week after the tournament from scouts trying to recruit his team.

If you missed out on this event, don’t worry,  you can catch the New York International Academy’s next home game at the Maines Arena on Friday Feb. 17th. Tickets will be $3 at the door.

See you there!
